Zaprešić Plants Its First “Crošnjica” Urban Forest!
To celebrate Zaprešić City Day, the first urban “Crošnjica” micro-forest was planted in the courtyard of Ljudevit Gaj Primary School—marking Croatia’s second Crošnjica site and the first within a city.
More than 150 volunteers, including students, scouts, and company volunteers from Atlantic Grupa, joined forces to plant 196 seedlings. After planting, volunteers mulched the area with wood shavings to protect the young plants and created small gravel paths, each species labeled with Croatian and Latin names.
The initiative combines community engagement, environmental education, and biodiversity enhancement, offering children a living classroom to observe nature’s growth and processes.
According to headmaster Tomislav Cerinski, students are proud to care for the Crošnjica and excited to see it grow over time.
The project was supported by Atlantic Grupa, which contributed volunteers and funding for seedlings, as part of its ESG and community engagement goals, and by the City of Zaprešić, whose deputy mayor praised the initiative and expressed hope for many more Crošnjicas in the future.
