Volunteers tree planting activity at Brussegem - day 1

This first volunteering day brought together the family of the landowner, the founder of Life Terra and his parents, and a few few curious neighbors that saw us planting trees in the shinning sun and decided to put gloves on to help us with the tree planting process.

It all started with the preparation of the land, and old and exhausted agricultural land that the land owners decided to regenerate following the advices of our local partner, The Commensalist. Having planted a variety of seeds randomly on the land, they ended up having a variety of short-lived species that functioned like pioneers and allowed for a baren and dry soil to host life once again, We were surprised hearing the story, and even more surprised when we started digging, finding a rich soil, full of life and worms. While being a small multigenerational group, we managed to plant an impressive number of almost 800 trees in one day. We took the form of a production line, having diggers, planters, and filers, while some would in-between select the species to be planted to promote biodiversity and species strength by grouping them by five to seven in triangular geometric pattern, allowing us to plant organically along the curved lines of the planting plan. We were blessed by what we could qualify as the first spring feeling of 2026, a sunny day with a peak of 20 degrees Celsius motivated everyone to plant intensely and efficiently. It was almost unexpected to reach such a high number of tree planted with such a small group, but I am sure the vitamin C comburant helped us all a lot!
