Cleveland Park in Ealing, West London, is an attractive urban park in the heart of a residential area, ringed by borders and featuring a scattering of trees. In common with many London parks, it predominantly features lawns, which - as attractive as grass can be - are known as ‘green deserts’ due to their lack of biodiversity. Thanks to Adyen’s tree planting on 20th February, though, this is all about to change!
We spent the morning planting saplings in circular formations with the aim of creating several mixed-species, native copses that will boost local diversity by supporting birds, insects and pollinators. In time, the copses will provide shade in the summer months and help with water management, by inhibiting run-off in dry periods, and taking up excess water when it’s wet.
Thanks to London’s relentless 2026 rain, the ground was boggy and we squidged around the site, getting amusingly muddy along the way. But, by some miracle, the rain held off for most of the event and we even witnessed some sunshine! As always, the Adyen team worked hard and fast, and before long a whole lawn was peppered with circles of saplings bedded in with woodchip blankets. A number of passers-by stopped to ask what we were doing and promised to ensure that the trees stayed watered during the summer months. It was lovely to see this enthusiastic local engagement!
Thank you, Adyen, for your hard work and enthusiasm - and of course for your generous donation of trees to this project!
