Planting with Mapletree at Glade Lane Park Ealing
Blue skies and sunshine greeted the Mapletree planting team at Glade Lane Canalside Park, an urban park in the Hounslow area of West London. For a number of years, the park had been used as a dumping ground for landfill from local construction sites, but its renaissance is well and truly underway! The landfill has now been formed into huge and varied mounds from which you can admire 360 views, including central London's famous skylines. Our job was to plant a variety of native trees on the sides of these mounds to promote biodiversity, improve shade and inhibit water run-off. The Mapletree team, together with our London planting partners Letting Grow and two Life Terra representatives, worked hard and fast along a steep incline, first creating holes and filling them with compost (to compensate for the poor soil), before planting the trees and surrounding them with woodchips, to inhibit weed growth and improve water retention. It was a great day out in nature and spirits were high as we observed the results of our labours as the sun went down.
