Collective action can have a more significant impact. By joining forces, we bring tree planting and its importance in combating climate change into the spotlight.
On November 8, 2025, we raised awareness about climate change and sustainability with a large-scale afforestation event in Ereğli, Turkey. Despite the expected winter weather, the event took place on warmer and sunnier days than expected.
This meaningful event was successfully realized thanks to the full support and extensive logistical support of the local municipality. The municipality not only provided land and pine saplings for planting but also provided bus transportation to the site for participants.
The event was well-attended and encompassed a wide range of participants:
Students from various educational levels, from kindergarten to university, took active roles.
Teachers, parents, municipal staff, and members of the public all worked together.
This collaborative effort ensured that the event went beyond simply planting trees; it became a powerful example of community cooperation and solidarity.
Before the saplings were planted, a comprehensive information and awareness session was held for the students. A circle was formed, and the students discussed climate change, the vital importance of trees to the ecosystem, and the reasons for selecting suitable pine saplings for the region in depth. This preliminary preparation enabled the young people to learn about climate action.
Participants then divided into teams of two or three and began planting with the shovels and saplings provided. The process involved planting 1,000 saplings, which was both fun and educational for children and volunteers. Parents also participated in the experience by supporting their children.
At the culmination of the event, meticulous work was done to ensure each sapling was firmly planted in the soil. The team spirit displayed during this process reinforced the children's sense of responsibility towards nature and taught them the value of supporting each other in a practical way.
After the planting was completed, the group gathered at the event site to assess the environmental and social impacts of the planting and to discuss the saplings' future. Each planted pine sapling became not only a tree but also a living symbol of memory, hope, and responsibility towards future generations.
The overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents and other schools reaffirmed the positive impact of such environmentally friendly activities on children's development and their contribution to social cohesion.
