Collective action can have a more significant impact. By joining forces, we bring tree planting and its importance in combating climate change into the spotlight.
This project is a co-creation of a Miyawaki-style miniforest in the heart of Alvalade, on Rua Alfredo Mesquita in Lisbon, Portugal.
The 420 m² forest of native species is designed to transform a grassy area into a multifunctional, biodiverse refuge for both people and nature. The project includes establishment, maintenance, and monitoring for two years and is guided by Urbem, Portugal’s first community-led urban reforestation NGO.
The forest layout maximizes natural benefits while ensuring accessibility, safety, and enjoyment for local residents, integrating the natural flow of footpaths and adapting plant selection to soil, water runoff, and sunlight conditions.
