EY Planting event at De Natuurkamer

Nestled in a corner of the Sloterpark in Amsterdam West, De Natuurkamer is an inspiring community initiative. In just a few years, De Natuurkamer's volunteers have transformed a dull patch of land into an exciting network of playgrounds, ponds, a formal garden, woodland, a food forest, a natural amphitheatre and much more.

On a gloriously sunny day in March, two large groups of volunteers from EY descended on De Natuurkamer to plant a mixed hedge around its food forest and increase the tree cover around the site, in both cases to boost biodiversity, improve shades and keep the brambles at bay. As we have come to expect from EY, their volunteers were quick, efficient and hard-working, positively relishing the detailed planting plan required to get the mix of trees for the hedging just right.

It was glorious to be in nature and in a beautiful location, on such a warm spring day. By the end of the day, the food forest was encircled by broad bands of mixed saplings and previously open parts of the site were bristling with new trees. We can't wait to return regularly to this location and watch its evolution. And are hugely grateful to EY and its volunteers for donating the trees and their time and energy to this wonderful community project!
