ABN AMRO tree planting event at camping Rorik

We came back to Camping Rorik for a second event, to begin the planting of the massive goat-proof hedge designed to encircle this pear and apple orchard, and also planting a few larger trees. ABN Amro's volunteers were punctual and well prepared: we could sense their tree planting experience. As always, we welcomed them with coffee and cakes, to ensure they had enough energy to dig through the heavy clay that once formed the Ij river bed.

After a welcome and introduction from the landowner, the team of 30 grabbed spades and saplings, and started planting. They split into two groups, and launched a competition: "race to be the first team to reach the middle of the hedge". This meant that some volunteers became professional trench diggers, while a tree planting chain efficiently rolled over the land: some dug, followed by the tree allocators, followed by the planters, and finally by those who filled the soil and made sure of the quality of the planting. We made sure to assist both teams along the way, checking that all trees were correctly planted while filling holes in the tree planting chain when necessary.

This impressive method and motivation ensured the planting of an impressive 600 trees in a little less than 3 hours! ABN Amro is a bank, and many of us know the saying "time is money". While this ideology does not align with the growth rate of a tree and nature as a whole, ABN Amro's volunteers made their time worth it, and contributed to an impressive effort of ecological restoration for the sake of quality and longevity. This is not the first time that ABN Amro has supported us, and we and the 'Landgoed Rorik' ecological restoration projects are very grateful for their support!
